Micro.blog Question Challenge

I decided to join ‘Micro.blog Question Challenge’ by Robert Birming. This is an initiative borrowed from Ava’s Bearblog. I think it’s great way to learn something about bloggers. Especially when they are starting writing. As it is in my case.

So you can find my answers on the eight questions below:

  1. Why did you make the blog in the first place?
  2. Why did you choose Micro.blog?
  3. Have you blogged on other platforms before?
  4. Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?
  5. When do you feel most inspired to write?
  6. Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?
  7. Your favorite post on your blog?
  8. Any future plans for your blog?

And important: If you want to join, answer on this questions and be sure to let Robert know. He can add you to his list of people who have joined the challenge.

Micro.blog Question Challenge

1. Why did you make the blog in the first place?

I started the blog (bstn.info) for several reasons. I was fed up with traditional social media. I wanted to get back to writing “at home” and on my own terms. Without thinking about whether I would hit the algorithm or not. Without a presence on popular social media.

Another reason was to find a way to improve my English. I’ve been learning it for several years and as part of that learning I wanted to start writing. Therefore, I combined the pleasant with the useful.

The third reason was a simple longing to blog. I have been blogging intermittently since 2007. I wanted to get back to it, because I’ve always liked it. Now I am blogging in a foreign language for the first time. It’s challenging and rewarding.

2. Why did you choose Micro.blog?

I like the minimalism of this platform and the community nature. People here are very friendly and it’s easy to make connections, share content, talk about it. This is a great advantage of micro.blog.

3. Have you blogged on other platforms before?

Of course it is. I used to be in love with WordPress. I also blogged on Blogspot, Medium, a few Polish sites whose names I won’t mention, because they only functioned in my country, and have been gone for a few years now. I also blogged on Posterous and Bearblog. I don’t think I left out anything.

4. Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?

If they are short entries with quotes, then I write directly in the editor. If I’m preparing a longer post, then I mostly write in TextEdit or Obsidian when I know I’ll have the opportunity to work on the post while traveling or away from home.

5. When do you feel most inspired to write?

There is no single moment. Sometimes an interesting thought will come to me on the train, other times in the evening before bed or during the day when I am engaged in some mundane activity.

Then I try to remember what came to mind, or I stop the activity and write down the thought quickly on my phone so I can come back to it later.

6. Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?

If it is a short entry, I publish it as soon as it is written. Professionally, I write a lot, so I know how important it is to set aside a finished entry for a little: a quarter of an hour, a day. And I try to implement this principle. I often change a lot of details after a while and only then publish the entry.

7. Your favorite post on your blog?

Hmm… difficult question. I think one of my favorite posts on my blog is one of the shortest and named ‘I don’t want’. It’s short, but extremely eloquent and lays out MY Philosophy of life. What I don’t want and don’t expect from life, and at the same time - between the words - what I do expect. It depicts my longing for an “ordinary” and “normal” life, which is becoming less and less around me and against my will.

8. Any future plans for your blog?

I would like to write more regularly than I do now. I would like to keep working on my English, because I see that it is easier to write in Polish than in a foreign language. I struggle with this with every entry. I think simply continuing on this path of writing is the most important task in this sphere of my digital activity on the Internet. I don’t set any big goals for myself.

I want to enjoy blogging and talking to the people I have the opportunity to meet through this activity. This is the most beautiful thing that, in my opinion, the Internet gives - the opportunity to connect people who have common passions and interests.
