I remember what a shock and absurdity at the same time were Donald Trump’s words about his intention to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
I leave aside the political issues of his words. I don’t want to comment on it or be a part of the dispute, because I live in the other hemisphere and think I shouldn’t get involved.
My attention was drawn to a project based on MapQuest, and actually available at the subdomain https://gulfof.mapquest.com.
There is a map of the Gulf of Mexico, and above it a search engine and two buttons (“Generate” and “Surprise Me”). You can type in anything yourself, and after a while it will appear on the map, or use one of the suggestions randomly published on the map.
Putting aside all the political fuss and looking at the matter purely from the point of view of the creative thought of the creator of this project, it can be considered quite a funny thing.
